Ascension to Pentecost

Did you know next Thursday is 40 days since Easter? Lots of christians celebrate this as Ascension Day and remember that, after rising from the dead and spending 40 days reassuring, reminding, and resourcing his disciples Jesus goes to be with the father.

Matthew records his final words as:

‘Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28: 19

At the start of Acts, Luke records these as Jesus’ final words.

“Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptised with water, but in a few days you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit… you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1: 4, 8.

Both show Jesus handing on the baton (go, you will be my witnesses) and calling the disciples to pray and be filled with his Spirit (wait, you will receive power).

Wait, pray, receive, go, teach, give witness, I am with you.

I’m so excited that in the week between Ascension Day and Pentecost this year we have opportunities to gather, as God’s people across this area, to to be commissioned, to be trained and to pray.

24-7 Prayer – ‘Blessed are the Peacemakers’

12th to 19th May.

Starting Sunday 12th May, we are gathering as God’s people in this town to pray for peace and evangelism around the theme ‘Blessed Are the Peacemakers.’ There will be a prayer room at Life Destiny Church, Starbeck. Having heard the commission to go, we get to do exactly what Jesus tells the followers – wait and pray.

This year we get to act out our response to Jesus words together.

I’m excited and expectant – what might God do among us, and with our going, as we gather to be trained and to pray? Don’t miss out! Sign up for a workshop, book in for a prayer hour. Join in with what is happening across our area.
