Charlie’s Story

Inexplicable Peace

Roughly 4 years ago I was scrolling on TikTok as any 13-year-old does, and I came across a video talking about Christianity and prayer, urging people to try praying so I gave it a go, and as I was praying I just broke out in tears and felt overwhelmed with emotions. I went down to my parents and told them I wanted to be a Christian though at the time the only Christian in my family was my Grandma as I came from a mostly agnostic background.

Though this sounds like the end of the story with a fairy tale ending with my faith flourishing from there on out, things got worse after that moment. Throughout the rest of year 9 and into year 10 I struggled with anxiety which led to depression and drawing further away from God. One night in February of year 10 I was wrestling with suicidal thoughts and got to the point where I fully resolved to and tried to take my life but thankfully stopped. The next morning, I broke down in school, spending the day with the student support team at my school and at the hospital and God was the last thing on my mind. Later that day however I had a sudden change of heart and I went out to my garden when it was dark and cried out to God, saying I’ve failed Him, ignored Him and not been living for Him. And when I did that and committed my life to Him, I was filled with an inexplicable peace, one that surpasses all understanding, and every anxious thought was done away with, every worry vanished, and I felt like a weight was lifted. From then on by the grace of God I have been so blessed to be able to serve Him and walk with Him, praying that the testimony of what He has done in my life would inspire others to try praying and exploring faith, and encourage fellow believers knowing God is still working in this world through His people and His power.
